The EP “Heavy Water” by miksproductions explores various forms of oppression that thoughts can delude themselves into. With a mix of expansive and deconstructed melodies, sharp synths, sounds of the daily life, and upbeat techno, the music guides the listener through their recreated inner world, falling into thoughts and their force.

About miksproductions

Miksproductions is an artistic collective, based in the Netherlands, consisting of two cousins, Eleni Mik and Akiko Mik. Having produced music in various forms and made videos throughout their whole life, both together and separately, they now join forces together as miksproductions, a name that originates from their childhood years. Combining their wide range of interests from songwriting to composing structures, electronics, sound-, video- and performance art, philosophical ideas, physics and traditional greek folk music. The two multi-instrumentalists dove into a world of co-composing, where every sound is created, thought of, and felt together..

Who are we?

Elèni Mik

Elèni Mik is a Greek-Dutch musician and artist. Having played classical piano from 5 years old, her true musical passion emerged at 19, when she attended a maqam and pre-war rebetiko seminar, where the Oud spoke to her differently. Alongside her musical development and exploration, she finished her studies in Theoretical Physics in Amsterdam and Berlin, focusing on philosophy of science and astrophysics, while performing across the city’s music scene. Now based in Rotterdam, she studies Oud and the musical traditions of the Silk Road at Codarts and frequently collaborates across theater, dance, and performance art. Her recent work includes composing and performing for productions such as the puppetry theater Zai el Lila at Ernst Busch University of Theatre Arts Berlin, and developing new interdisciplinary projects in dance and performance art.

Akiko Mik

Akiko Mik is a composer and vocalist based in the Netherlands. She creates electro-acoustic works that blend experimental pop, electronics, and contemporary art music. Her compositions often merge song forms with structured compositional frameworks and explore the coexistence of movement and stillness. Akiko frequently collaborates across disciplines to create an immersive experience. Her piece Voiced Void, for three speakers and percussionists, exemplifies her interest in layered time and spatial sound.
